Privacy Policy

Effective: 6 October 2026 · App: DocNest (Android, package com.docnest)

DocNest ("the app", "we") is a personal and family organiser for documents, bills, money, health and safety information. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, where it is stored, and your choices. It applies to the app and to this website.

In short: your vault lives on your phone. We don't run servers that store your documents. Optional backup goes to your own Google Drive. Location is used only when you press SOS or "detect my state". You can delete everything at any time.

1. Data you enter, stored on your device

People, documents and their details, attachments (photos, PDFs), tasks and reminders, bills and meter readings, vehicle logs, applications, loans, cards, deposits, savings goals, tax inputs, credit scores you record, and an activity history of changes. All of this is kept in the app's private storage on your phone. Android's own cloud backup is turned off for this data.

2. Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, the app receives your name and email address. They are used only to show which account is connected and to find your backups. They are stored on your device and are not sent to us.

3. Google Drive backup (scope drive.file)

If you connect Drive, the app uploads your attachments, and a backup copy of your vault data (as a JSON file), into a DocNest folder in your Google Drive. It keeps up to 14 daily versions. This lets you restore after reinstalling or changing phones. The drive.file permission only lets the app see files it created or that you open with it. It cannot read your other Drive files. Your encrypted emergency card is never included in backups.

4. Gmail import (scope gmail.readonly)

If you use "Import from Gmail", the app lists recent emails with PDF or image attachments, on your device, and downloads only the attachment you pick. It never sends, changes or deletes email. It does not store message contents and does not transfer Gmail data to anyone.

5. Google API Services — Limited Use

DocNest's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide the features described here. It is not used for advertising, not sold, not transferred to third parties, and not used to train AI or machine-learning models. No human reads it unless you ask us for support and give explicit consent.

6. Location

The app asks for location permission only when you use one of two features:

Location is never collected in the background, never stored by the app, and never sent to us. You can turn off location use for SOS in the app's privacy controls.

7. Emergency card & health information

Your emergency card holds your blood group, allergies, medicines, conditions, insurance and preferred hospital. It is encrypted on your device with an Android Keystore key, is not backed up, and is shared only if you turn on "include in SOS" and send an SOS message yourself. Health calculator inputs (height, weight, BP and so on) are processed on your device. The app never interprets medical documents or gives diagnoses.

8. Contacts, camera and SMS

The app does not request contacts, camera or SMS permissions:

9. On-device text recognition

When you capture a document, text recognition runs on your device (Google ML Kit) to suggest where to file it. Images are not uploaded for this.

10. Advertising

Small banners appear only on the Tools screens, never next to your documents. They are our own campaigns from our server. No third-party ad network is used and the advertising ID is not read. To count unique views and taps, the app sends a random install ID it generates itself. That ID isn't linked to your name, account, phone number or device identifiers, and clearing app data resets it. Sponsored offers are clearly labelled.

11. Remote configuration

The app may download a small public file from this website (fuel prices, offers, tax-slab updates). The request contains no personal data.

12. Sharing

We don't sell or share your personal data. Data leaves your phone only when you choose to send it:

13. Security

Connections use HTTPS. The emergency card is encrypted at rest. Access to Google services uses short-lived tokens that are never stored. Please protect your phone with a screen lock.

14. Retention & deletion

15. Your rights (India — DPDP Act, 2023)

You can see, correct and delete your information directly in the app. For any request or grievance, contact our grievance contact below. We aim to respond within 30 days.

16. Children

DocNest is meant to be used by adults managing family records, including records about children. It is not directed at children.

17. Disclaimer

Calculators, estimates and suggestions are for education and planning only. They are not professional medical, tax, legal, insurance or investment advice.

18. Changes

We'll update this page and its effective date when practices change, and we'll show a notice in the app for important changes.
